Yes I know this blog needs a bit of work done on it (ok that's a euphemism) but just in case you think I am asleep at the wheel I do keep a couple of other blogs as well.
One that you might like to visit is Internet Marketing 101 at Telsta's BigBlog:

So why start a blog elsewhere when the one on my web site is in dire need of content? you ask.
Because if you want people to see the one on your web site you need to get some back links to it and one way of doing that is to start some blogs elsewhere and include links to your web site. Its all part of search engine optimising your web site and it doesn't happen overnight.
So if you want to get your blog or web site noticed, start blogging elsewhere and leaving comments on other people's blogs. By the time those links start working you should have your web content starting to take shape.
It's chicken or egg stuff. If you don't promote your web site you won't feel any pressure to get the content up and if you put lots of content on your web site but you don't get any visitors, it is hard to stay motivated to keep doing it.
The solution is to multi task - do both at the same time.
Note well, you may be tempted to copy your blogs and post them to all your other blogs or to the web site. Don't do it.
Most search engines now have programmes to check for duplicate content and you will be penalised for plagiarism. How do they know you own them all. Also your readers won't like it either.
I know, you thought the hard work was over when you created the web site but now you find it's only just beginning. I'm afraid all the easy ways don't produce any lasting results and if you are in business for the long haul, you had better learn to do it right from the beginning.
However the benefit is you will get good results in the search engines eventually and it is easier to maintain a good position that it is to get one. Keep faith and keep working, you'll get there in the end.
